THE VIPER
Motion Design - Animation - Graphics
This project emerged from a collaboration between myself and Charess Kurogane, a known model and cosplayer based in Asia, who had the honor of being commissioned by Riot Games to promote the video game Valorant. The central idea was to seamlessly integrate a still-life photo of Charess into a dynamic 3D world environment. Through the use of various tools and techniques, I successfully realized this vision.

The Process
Much like my other projects, this one started with a vision, an idea, and a series of tests to refine and streamline the workflow towards achieving the project's objectives. Starting with a concept derived from a still photograph of the model, I sought out the appropriate 3D assets to seamlessly integrate them into the environment. For this project, I utilized two distinct 3D applications: Maxon’s Cinema 4D for crafting the entire 3D environment and animations, and Video Co-Pilot’s Element 3D for the Title Sequence. I opted for Element 3D due to its exceptional efficiency and speed in generating real-time text animations within Adobe After Effects, eliminating the need for back-and-forth rendering with different programs.
Starting with the highest quality image from my model's photoshoot, I meticulously applied enhancements and improvements to seamlessly integrate it into my scene. However, I aimed for more than just a static image; I envisioned this photograph as an active part of the environment. To achieve this, I started on an animation process. This involved meticulously isolating various elements of the image and animating them seperately, including the arms, limbs, and head movements. Additionally, I incorporated dynamic visual effects such as a vibrant green electric charge element and added subtle hair animations.
Methodically, I arranged all assets within CINEMA 4D, crafting an environment that not only visually aligns in composition but also resonates well on camera. Here, I carefully applied texture images that accompanied the models, and seamlessly integrated my own elements, including strategically placed puddles for a reflective touch, well-positioned light sources, and finely-tuned camera choreography.
In Adobe After Effects, I start on the next phase after importing the rendered .png sequences from the 3D program. This stage involves layering on additional visual effects, including smokes and optical flares, and integrating a background skybox/image to further enrich the atmosphere. I meticulously fine-tune the image's appearance and style, ensuring it aligns with the intended vision. Additionally, I seamlessly incorporate the title sequence crafted using Video Co-Pilot’s Element 3D.
Personally and professionally, this project was a delightful experience. I received helpful feedbacks from fellow artists and close friends alike. I take particular pride in how I seamlessly integrated the main scene with the title sequence, utilizing a clever transition technique involving the title screen letters. The lessons learned from this endeavor have been invaluable, with many of the techniques and insights applied to my subsequent projects.
